Intensive insulin therapy using a continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion pump is sometimes necessary for patients with type 1 diabetes. Insulin pumps come with different optional features that may measure different parameters. The importance of these features and the parameters they measure in effective glycemic control was assessed in a study of 88 consecutive type 1 diabetes patients on CSII therapy. Patient data collected included demographics, anthropometrics, disease characteristics , glycated hemoglobin , blood glucose, carbohydrate intake, insulin dosage and pump adherence. Pump features assessed included the manual prime and rewind function, the bolus calculator wizard and the number of glucose readings.
