Can facial exercises make you look younger?

You workout your muscles to tone-up your body, so why not workout the muscles in your face to tone-up your skin?  Facial exercising is becoming a growing trend for both women and men, but does it work?

Facial exercising is nothing new.  Jack LaLanne was singing its praises back in the days of black and white TV.  But, now thanks in part to YouTube, facial exercises are making a comeback.  And while they may look a little silly those who use them insist they work.   Esthetician Lauren Rose MacKay has been practicing facial exercises for years and says she definitely believes the exercise works.   Rose MacKay says more and more women and men are opting for non-invasive natural treatments that strengthen and tone the face without injections or surgical lifts.   Treatments like micro-current, which also stimulates and strengthens the muscles in the face, acts as an anti-aging stimulation that helps blood flow and circulate exercising the face according to Rose MacKay.   Audrea Crowley is a trainer for FlexEffect, a California based company that teaches facial resistance exercises.    “Through resistance training you end up building the muscles in the face, which as a result of building them leaves the face back up where it used to be.”    Facial plastic surgeon Mark Petroff says facial exercising could help prevent sagging but warns, “if you do them improperly and you’re squinting and creating lines in your skin you’re going to promote wrinkles.”   Dr. Petroff says facial exercise won’t give the same results as Botox, fillers, or face-lifts but may be for those who don’t mind looking a little silly in order to firm up their face.   Other ideas to help fight aging skin: stay fit, eat a good diet, get enough sleep and avoid smoking or tanning.
