Holiday eating season about to get under way
Experts say our bodies will thank us if we make our New Year’s resolution now.
“If you set yourself up right before the holidays come by being aware that weight gain is an issue and that you know that you overeat there are some things that you can do to prevent that,” said Mara Vitolins, Wake Forest University.
Buy Halloween candy you don’t like, use low-fat substitutes while cooking your Thanksgiving meal, and eat before you hit the holiday parties. Most importantly, set realistic goals going into the holidays. Rather than losing weight, try to maintain.
“It’s almost like you give yourself a holiday gift if you don’t gain that five pounds and then have to struggle to lose it over the next year,” said Vitolins.
Another tip: experts say signing up for a New Year’s Day race is a way to make sure you don’t celebrate too much on new year’s eve – and will keep you motivated to exercise from now through the holidays.
Another incentive to keep the weight off: People typically do not lose the pounds they put on over the holidays
