Still no source identified in 33 local E. coli cases
ST LOUIS KMOV – Health department investigators say they still cannot identify the source of the 33 confirmed E coli cases in the St Louis area Fifty-five food samples have been tested with no positive returns Only about half of CDC investigations into food borne illnesses identify a cause The lab has tested food from two private homes and several Schnucks stores in the area All the tests came back negative Some foods have a short shelf life and are gone by the time the illness incubates, or other organisms take over as the food spoils There is also no common thread among the patients The best defense against getting sick is washing produce and properly cooking meat
