AZ Settles More Seroquel Suits
London-based drugmaker AstraZeneca has agreed to settle 17,500 lawsuits that claim its antipsychotic medication quetiapine (Seroquel) causes diabetes. The drug is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar depression, but users have claimed that the company has not properly warned patients and doctors about the risk of diabetes. The large settlement came days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered AstraZeneca to stop using promotional materials that did not properly warn of the diabetes risk associated with quetiapine or its extended-release version.
