Queen of England, U.K. Honor Annie Lennox
Annie Lennox has picked up another award — and this time it wasn’t given to her by another pop singer, but rather the Queen of England. The former Eurythmic and solo sensation was recently made an officer of the Order of the British Empire at an investiture ceremony in London. The star was honored for her tireless work fighting AIDS in Africa, especially her efforts with women and girls. Her speeches, charities, and campaigns regarding HIV and AIDS were recently chronicled in HIV Plus. Lennox, 56, who is also an Oxfam ambassador and UNESCO goodwill ambassador, accepted her OBE honor accompanied by her daughters, Tali and Lola. “Campaigning has been taking up a great deal of my commitment for quite a few years, and what it means is that there’s a significance to what I’m doing,” Lennox said, according to the BBC. “I’m not just working in a void.”
